On October 19th, 2021, Governor Newsom declared a statewide drought emergency. However, water politics in the Golden State have been fraught for centuries, from the privatization of public lands and the influence of agribusiness to the infamous conspiracies depicted in the film Chinatown. This interdisciplinary panel of climate experts will examine California’s fragile relationship to water, and what the drought tells us about power and profit in the Golden State.
